From the Pastor

It has been my privilege and pleasure to serve since

October 2005 as a visiting priest, and since September

1, 2007, as the first full-time priest solely dedicated to

serving St. Sahag Armenian Church.

During that time, St. Sahag Armenian church has continued to grow and evolve and mature as a

worshiping community of faith. In the short time that I have been here, I am encouraged to see

how so many people have come forward to offer their time, treasure and talents to advance the

mission of the Armenian Church.

St. Sahag Armenian Church is a complex community in many respects, however its

mission remains simple. As our diocesan leadership has stated:

“The Mission of the Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Church is to preach the Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ and to proclaim its message of salvation. This mission is realized through worship, education, witness, service and a common life in Jesus Christ as expressed in the distinctive faith experience of the Armenian people. All members of the Armenian Church — both clergy and lay — are called to participate fully in its mission.”

As a community, we are enjoying success as we carry out that mission. In 2006, the

accomplishment of the community of Saint Sahag was recognized by the Archdiocese and the

church was transformed from a Mission Parish to full Parish Status. As one of the newest Armenian

Churches in North America, we were graced this past October with a two-day Pontifical visit of His

Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians.

There has been effective and harmonious leadership from the Parish Council. The

Women’s Guild continues to be the backbone of parish activities. We are also blessed to have

healthy and positive cooperative rapport with an active and vibrant Armenian Cultural

Organization which is housed in the church complex. Participation in worship has been enhanced

with the involvement of numerous acolytes and a talented choir. We have great potential in a

developing Armenian Church Youth Organization and a new Sunday School which is opening in the

end of January, 2008.

As we continue toward an even brighter future, I look to all the embers of the larger

community for guidance and support. I welcome your comments about the life of St. Sahag

Armenian Church and I look forward to continuing to work with you to build up the Church and to

glorify Our Lord.

With blessings,
Rev. Fr. Sahak M. Kaishian
